ABOUT THE COUNTRY

A G20 Economy Reopening Its Doors to Investors

Argentina is the second-largest country in South America and the eighth-largest in the world, stretching from the subtropical north to the glaciers of Patagonia. Buenos Aires, the capital, sits at the center of a culture shaped by heavy European immigration, a serious literary tradition, and food and wine that draw visitors on their own merits.

The economic picture has shifted quickly over the past couple of years. Under President Javier Milei, Argentina moved from chronic fiscal deficits to a budget surplus and brought down inflation that had been running out of control for most of the past decade.

The country sits in the G20, holds major reserves in energy, lithium, and agricultural land, and is now actively courting the kind of long-term foreign capital that the new citizenship by investment framework is part of.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Argentina Citizenship by Investment

Argentina's citizenship by investment program is the first of its kind in South America. It offers foreign investors a direct route to Argentine citizenship through a qualifying investment, without the residency period that standard naturalization requires. The program was established by presidential decree in July 2025 and is currently in its pre-launch phase.

The Ministry of Economy has not yet published a minimum investment figure or a confirmed list of qualifying sectors, and a tender meant to bring in a private operator to help launch the program was cancelled in April 2026. A revised rollout plan is in progress, with no confirmed date yet for when applications will open.

Please Note: Argentina's citizenship by investment program is not yet open for applications. The legal framework is in place, but investment thresholds, qualifying sectors, and the application process are still being finalized by the Ministry of Economy. This page will be updated as official details are confirmed. For the latest program developments or to register your interest, contact UNO Capital today.

PROGRAM ADVANTAGES

Key Benefits of the Argentina Citizenship by Investment Program

US E-2 Treaty Investor Visa

Argentina holds a longstanding treaty of commerce and navigation with the United States. That means Argentine citizens already qualify for the E-2 investor visa, a route many other nationalities can't access at all regardless of how much they invest.

Strong Passport, Broad Reach

Argentine citizens travel visa-free or visa-on-arrival to over 165 destinations, including the full Schengen Area, Japan, and most of Latin America. Argentina has also applied to rejoin the US Visa Waiver Program, though that application has not been approved yet.

Dual Citizenship Recognized

Argentina does not require new citizens to give up their original nationality. Anyone who becomes Argentine through this program would keep their existing passport, subject to whatever rules their home country applies to dual nationals.

Mercosur Freedom of Movement

As a founding Mercosur member, Argentina gives its citizens the right to live and work across the bloc's member and associate states, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chile among them, without a separate visa or work permit.

Full Family Inclusion Under One Application

A spouse and dependent children are expected to qualify under the same application, meaning the citizenship pathway extends to the whole family rather than requiring separate filings.

Residency-Based Tax System

Argentina taxes based on where someone lives, not which passport they hold. Citizens living outside Argentina are generally not taxed on income earned abroad. Anyone weighing this should speak with a qualified tax advisor for their specific situation.

APPLICATION PROCESS

How the Application Process Works

Argentina's program isn't accepting applications yet, so there's no live process to walk through. What follows comes directly from the mechanics laid out in the decree itself, the parts of the process that are actually written into law already.

Book a Private Consultation
01

Eligibility Assessment and Onboarding

The process begins with an initial consultation with UNO Capital. Your profile is reviewed against the program's eligibility criteria, and a pre-screening is completed before any formal steps are taken.
02

Submission and Due Diligence

Once onboarding is complete, UNO Capital prepares and verifies all required documentation. The application is then submitted to Argentina's Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs, where multi-agency due diligence is conducted covering financial, criminal, and security records.
03

Approval and Investment

Following the due diligence review, applicants receive approval in principle from the reviewing agency. The qualifying investment is then completed into a government-approved sector, after which Argentina's migration authority issues a formal decision.
04

Citizenship and Passport Issuance

Successful applicants are granted Argentine citizenship and become eligible to register for a tax ID with Argentina's federal tax authority. UNO Capital continues to provide support through passport issuance and any post-approval requirements.

ELIGIBILITY & TIMELINE

Who Qualifies, What It Costs, and How Long It Takes

The program is open to most nationalities. Basic requirements:

APPLICANT

Who Can Apply

Argentina’s full eligibility criteria haven’t been published yet. Based on the decree, applicants will need to demonstrate a qualifying investment as defined by forthcoming Ministry of Economy rules and pass background checks covering financial, criminal, and security history. No residency in Argentina, prior or ongoing, is required to apply.

Alongside program-specific requirements, the following apply to all applicants as standard:

  • Clean Criminal Record
Applicants must have no criminal record. Background checks are coordinated across multiple government agencies as part of the review process.
  • Due Diligence Clearance
All applicants must successfully pass the government’s due diligence checks, which cover financial, security, and immigration history.
  • Proof of Source of Funds
Applicants must provide documented evidence that the investment funds have been legally obtained. This is a mandatory part of the application process.
  • Compliance and Documentation
All compliance and documentation requirements set out by the relevant authorities must be met in full before an application can proceed.

Who You Can Bring Along

  • The decree doesn’t yet specify which family members can be included on an application.
  • Most comparable programs extend coverage to a spouse and dependent children, and industry expectation is that Argentina’s program will follow a similar pattern.
  • That expectation hasn’t been confirmed in any published regulation so far, so treat it as likely, not guaranteed.
APPLICANT

How Long the Process Takes

  • The one timeline that’s actually fixed in law is the 30-business day window Argentina’s migration authority has to decide on an application once it’s under formal review.
  • What isn’t fixed is when that clock starts, since the application portal itself isn’t open.
  • Total time from interest to passport depends on regulations that are still being written.
